Sport is returning despite the Coronavirus contagion.
Since the beginning of March, sporting events around the world have been postponed or even canceled, due to the COVID-19 virus in an attempt to “flatten the curve”. After two months of living in a world without sport, official sports leagues and events are slowly being reintroduced. What sport can we look forward to?
What sports are making a comeback between now and the end of May?
- Bundesliga was the first official European Football League to be reopened. Matches were played on the 16th of May 2020. The League was played behind closed doors without fans. The season will run through June 28, barring any unforeseen suspensions of play.
- NASCAR returned to action on the 17th of May 2020. The 400-mile race was held without fans in attendance and was NASCAR’s first on-track action in more than two months after the series was suspended in March.
- Golf saw a Driving Relief charity match between Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, and Matthew Fowler at Seminole Golf Club on the 17th of May 2020. Each Golfer played for $3 million to fight the coronavirus. The format was a best-ball skins, which means that each hole is worth a certain amount of money.
- Golf will also host a charity match between Tiger Woods, Peyton Manning vs Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady in a charity golf match. The four participants will contribute a combined $10 million donation to relief efforts. The 18-hole match will consist of nine holes of best ball and nine holes of modified alternate shot. This will be held on the 24th of May 2020.
